AISI Recognizes DiMicco for His Service to the Institute, Steel Industry

11/19/2012 - The American Iron and Steel Institute recognized Daniel DiMicco, who is stepping down as CEO of Nucor Corporation on 1 January 2013, for his dynamic leadership on AISI's Board of Directors which has been invaluable in advancing the steel industry's pro-manufacturing agenda.

Daniel R. DiMicco, chairman, and chief executive officer, Nucor Corporation, and a former chairman and current director of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), has announced that he will pass on his CEO responsibilities to current President and Chief Operating Officer, John J. Ferriola on 1 January 2013.  Widely recognized for his tremendous leadership achievements at Nucor and as a champion of American manufacturing, DiMicco will remain with Nucor as Executive Chairman.
“Dan ‘s dynamic leadership on AISI’s Board of Directors has been invaluable in advancing the industry’s pro-manufacturing agenda,” Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), said.  “His service to the Institute and our industry has been immeasurable and we look forward to his continued advocacy on behalf of Nucor and the manufacturing community.  We offer our support and best wishes in this next chapter of his illustrious career.”

DiMicco served as chairman of the AISI Board of Directors for two terms from January - December 2002 and May 2010 - November 2011.  DiMicco is also a past recipient of the Institute’s Gary Medal, AISI's highest award, which he received in 2004.  His service and leadership was recognized with these words:   “In recognition of the outstanding leadership, energy and personal commitment he has brought to the cause of fair trade for North American steel producers and their customers; his commitment to a unified steel industry response to the critical public policy issues of our time; and his commitment to innovative technology and employee relations.”
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice.  AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology.  AISI is comprised of 25 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 125 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.  AISI's member companies represent approximately over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.
