AISI Congratulates Bloom on Administration Post
09/15/2009 - In a statement, AISI President and CEO Thomas J. Gibson congratulates Ron Bloom on behalf of AISI for being named by President Obama as the Administration’s Senior Counselor for Manufacturing Policy.
American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) President and CEO Thomas J. Gibson congratulated Ron Bloom on behalf of AISI for being named by President Obama as the Administration’s Senior Counselor for Manufacturing Policy.
“Manufacturing in America is at a crossroads that requires a major policy shift to embrace a pro-manufacturing policy agenda,” Gibson said in the statement. “Since 2000, over 4 million U.S. manufacturing jobs have migrated overseas because of the lack of aggressive policies to keep these valuable, high-paying jobs here in America. With his background as a former adviser to the United Steelworkers union, Ron has firsthand knowledge about the value that cornerstone industries, such as steel, and its top-notch workforce, bring to the American economy.”
Gibson presented a list of necessary actions to ensure future success: “At the top of the list should be establishing and enforcing trade policies that will level the international playing field for all manufacturers; adopting a global approach to climate change that holds foreign manufacturers to comparable standards on lowering CO2 emissions; developing a national energy policy that takes a long view and creates green, affordable, and abundant sources of energy; upgrading America’s transportation infrastructure system, which will also help fuel economic recovery; and eliminating policies that put U.S. manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage by significantly raising their costs.”
Gibson concluded: “We are pleased that the President has recognized the importance of supporting American manufacturing through this appointment, and we look forward to working with Ron in support of American manufacturers and American workers.”
