AIS to Implement SteelPlanner Solution for New Dongbu Steel Minimill
04/16/2009 - Dongbu Steel selects SteelPlanner from AIS to optimize production scheduling in its brand new minimill.
Dongbu Steel, Korea, has selected AIS to implement its SteelPlanner® Solution in Dongbu’s brand new minimill, which is scheduled to be completed in 2009.
SteelPlanner will build mid-term schedules for the new plant, taking into account all the major constraints of the casting and milling processes. Based on the mid-term results, SigmaPlanner—SteelPlanner’s minimill scheduler—will build day-to-day schedules designed to maximize both production and customer satisfaction.
"We have a long experience in cold mill area for 30 years, but we are novices in hot mill area,” said Mr. Lee, Project Manager at Dongbu Steel. “Therefore, we wanted a proven solution for planning and scheduling of our minimill.
“In order to reduce the trial and error that comes from being novice, the proven solution specified for steel, especially for minimill, was needed. Finally, we discovered the proven solution provider,” added Lee. “We believe that AIS is the best provider and partner of verified solutions, which has much experience in the steel industry.”
The project, which was started in the first quarter of 2009, is due to go live together with the mill in July 2009.
