AIME Keynote: Reimaging the Future

Delivering the AIME 150th Anniversary Keynote on Tuesday, Diana’s presentation took a detailed look at the 100 years between 1870 and 1970, which is considered to be the most transformative century in human history. He discussed the convergence that occurred during those years, brought on by World Wars I and II, and the Great Depression.

He cited the societal factors that spurred those events – a pandemic, immigration issues and financial stresses – and how those same factors exist in today’s society.

Looking forward, Diana gave examples of where society and technology might take us, from precision agriculture and advance materials to autonomous vehicles and social robots.

The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical & Petroleum Engineers (AIME) is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and the lecture was meant to give a look at the technological trends that will shape manufacturing’s future.
