AIC Upgrading Roughing Stands at German Rolling Mill

According to the vendor, Automazioni Industriali Capitanio s.r.l (AIC), FERALPI Stahl is swapping out 20-year-old drives on roughing stands Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8 at its Riesa mill. The revamped stands are to be put into service in January.

AIC said it is replacing ABB ACV700 drives with new ACS880 inverter series drives.

The order includes a single panel battery and regenerative active front end 2,400-amp DC BUS made up nr 4 DC modules in parallel.

The inverter will be composed of eight inverter modules in two-by-two parallel configuration for control of two 550 kW AC motors and two 350KW AC motors.

The drives will be made from off-the-shelf components to protect customer investment in time and freedom of choice. All of the equipment will be assembled and tested in AIC workshops.

AIC designs and builds industrial automation systems, and its goal is to improve efficiency, competitiveness and safety of production processes.
