AIC Supplies New PLC & HMI System to Texas Reroller

AIC recently successfully accomplished a new PLC & HMI automation system for the control of the light profiles rolling mill of W. Silver Plant in El Paso, Texas.

The scope of supply included the Master PLCs panels as well as the new main control desk, suited to drive and manage each area of the rolling mill:
-       control system for roughing mill entry (3 rails)
-       cascade control
-       loop control
-       intermediate shear & cooling bed entry automation
-       supervision upgrade
-       test system of proofs speed

The job had been planned and scheduled to minimize the downtime of the production line; the master panel as well as loop scanners and main pulpit were accordingly designed, positioned and wired off line, before the mill was shut down.

Thanks to this careful project engineering and management, AIC allowed the customer to reduce the downtime: it was possible to implement the system in only one week performing all commissioning activities, which included existing AB SLC-500 CPUs dismantling, new PLC AB ControlLogix Software setting, new SCADA AB FactoryTalk View HMI and cold and hot tests.

The new automation control system successfully started up in a record time and it allowed the customer’s plant to become much more flexible, due to the new recipes system for the setting of cascade parameters, maintenance tools and fine tuning.
