AIC Commissions Wire Rod Plant for Univers Acier

AIC (Automazioni Industriali Capitanio) recently concluded startup of the electrical portion of a complete twin-strand wire rod mill for Univers Acier.
Located on the outskirts of Casablanca, Morocco, the new 500,000 tonnes/year mill comprises 28 DC drives stands, two fast finishing blocks, four shears and six pinch rolls. Associated systems include:
- Furnace loading automation, including arrangement for hot charging system from CCM
- Combustion management of the reheat furnace, featuring an optimized heating strategy and internal surveillance cameras system
- Discharging system
- Automation and control of the roughing area, intermediate rolling mill and two pre-finishing rolling mills
- Automation and control of two wire rod lines including shear, fast finishing block, pinch roll and layer forming head with cooling conveyor
Additional systems include lubrication and hydraulic systems for the water treatment plant and auxiliary services.
The new wire rod mill started up about one month ahead of scheduled time-table and a total commissioning period of only two months. ; in this period the AIC staff completed I/O tests, AC&DC Drives calibrations, cold and hot tests and production assistance.
