AI-Based Automated Tapping System Developed in South Korea
09/07/2021 - Researchers from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) have developed an artificial intelligence-based automated system for tapping using smart cameras, reports Aju Business Daily.
In a statement last week, researchers from POSTECH said they have been working with POSCO on an automated technique will help safely pour molten steel from a converter into a torpedo ladle car using a closed-circuit television camera, the news outlet reported.
"The AI-based automated tapping system can greatly improve the safety of workers and their work efficiency as well as stabilizing the quality of products," POSTECH researcher Hong Dae-geun said.
The camera’s AI will not only detect the presence of slag and the right timing to insert darts, but it will also upgrade skills through deep learning and predict optimized models through data collection and analysis.
