AHMSA Signs Acceptance Certificate on New Vacuum Degasser
05/23/2019 - Primetals Technologies has received the final acceptance certificate on a twin RH vacuum degasser it built for Altos Hornos de Mexico S.A.B. de C.V., the company has announced.
In a statement, Primetals Technologies said the 150-ton degasser, which was installed at the No. 2 steel works in Monclova, Coah., is capable of processing the equivalent of 2 million metric tons of liquid steel each year.
Primetals said the degasser features a combined vessel ladle lifting system and a dry mechanical pump, which reduces costs and is more easily integrated into the production line.
“The new plant allows AHMSA to produce steels with very low hydrogen content, required for applications in the oil and gas industries,” the company said. “Introducing ... a dry mechanical vacuum pump system into the RH process yields excellent metallurgical results in terms of degassing and decarburization.”
Primetals Technologies provided the mechanical vacuum pumps, the structural steel work, the treatment station, and the automation and electrical packages.
