AHMSA Installs New Plate Normalizing Line
06/03/2016 - Altos Hornos de México S.A.B. de C.V. (AHMSA) has begun processing plates on a newly installed normalizing line at its Monclova works, according to the equipment supplier.
According to Primetals Technologies, the line is capable of treating plates in thicknesses of between 4.5 mm and 50.8 mm and in widths of between 1,500 mm and 3,048 mm. Primetals provided the engineering, supplied all of the components and oversaw construction and start-up. Additionally, it provided a full electrical package, which includes energy distribution automation.
Primetals said AHMSA’s initial order was for a line capable of processing 200,000 metric tons annually. However, the company revised the order, asking instead for 300,000 metric tons of capacity. The line is being used to process plate produced on a Steckel mill.
AHMSA is Mexico’s only producer of heavy plate. It also manufactures hot- and cold-rolled coils, tin-coated and tin-free sheets, and a variety of heavy sections.
