After Hurricane Harvey, Tenaris Pushes Back Bay City Schedule
09/05/2017 - Tenaris SA said its Houston-area facilities are gradually returning to normal operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, but it has pushed back the start-up of rolling operations at its new Bay City, Texas, mill.
In a statement, the company said construction work is resuming, and the rolling of the first pipe will now take place in October.
The company said its facilities suffered no major flooding or damage, but more than one-third of its Houston-area employees were affected.
"The impact on our people has been severe. Out of our 1,320 employees in the Houston area 36% have been displaced. We are in constant contact with them and are providing time and financial assistance at this difficult time."
Elsewhere, French tubemaker Vallourec has resumed operations at its Houston facilities.
"The production facilities, after inspections Wednesday and Thursday, have minimal damage and are safe for employees to return to. All Houston facilities are open and conducting business as local travel conditions permit," the company said.
Still, many of its Houston-area employees also have been affected by the storm, about 150 of 1,000.
“We would like to thank all of our team members for their tremendous efforts to assist and support each other in this critical event,” said Vallourec North American president Nicolas de Coignac.
