Acciaierie d'Italia and NextChem Announce Collaboration
10/25/2021 - Italy's Acciaierie d'Italia, jointly owned by ArcelorMittal and Invitalia, and NextChem, a subsidiary of Maire Tecnimont S.p.A., are to conduct a feasibility study of circular gas at the steelmaker’s Taranto mill.
According to a press release, the environmental benefits of circular gas, or syngas, will be the focus of the study. Circular gas can be used in the refining and production of steel and replaces coal dust and natural gas, decreasing CO2 emissions.
“We are proud to collaborate with Acciaierie d'Italia in the development of a project that can offer a concrete solution for the decarbonization of the steel processing cycle and production. NextChem's Waste-to-Chemical technology, which is worksite-ready, can make a strong contribution to the green reconversion of traditional industrial sites,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, chief executive officer of Maire Tecnimont Group and NextChem.
