ABB Partners with SSAB Oxelösund for New Quenching Line
05/31/2007 - ABB Metals in Sweden has received a partnering-based contract from SSAB for the installation of a new quenching line (H4) in Oxelösund, Sweden.
ABB Metals in Sweden has received a contract from SSAB for the installation of a new quenching line (H4) in Oxelösund, Sweden.
SSAB Oxelösund selected ABB as its supplier in a new form of cooperation, namely partnering. The contract involves project management, engineering, material supply, and includes the supply of drive systems, switchgear, motors and instruments, as well as commissioning.
“Partnering is a new concept that provides shorter delivery times, better total solutions and common project development between the supplier and the customer,” explained Petter Oscarsson, Head of ABB Sweden’s operations in the Swedish market for metals and mining.
Partnering holds the promise of shorter customer delivery times, optimized technical solutions, and tight project follow-up—in terms of time and cost—as made possible by the combination of the partners’ skilled human resources. Open-book accounting and Engineering Base (EB)—a common engineering tool used by both ABB and many of its customers—are other important cornerstones in the concept.
Using the partnering concept, ABB will ensure that SSAB meets its investment goals with well-controlled and timely project execution.
“This being our first partnering project at ABB Metals, we will do our utmost to carry out the project in a successful manner that will be beneficial for both the customer and ourselves,” said Thomas Johansson, Vice President, ABB Metals in Sweden.
Production on the new quenching line is scheduled to start on March 1, 2008.
