ABB Deploys Augmented Reality for Remote Factory Acceptance Test During Modernization Project
11/23/2021 - Global Steel Wire (GSW), part of the CELSA Group, contracted global technology company ABB to provide digital-ready solutions for the modernization of its operations at its Santander steel mill in Spain.
According to a press release from ABB, the company is providing its medium-voltage drives for high-power applications, MEGADRIVE-LCI, along with AC 800PEC controllers. Its MEGADRIVE-LCI utilizes a fuseless drive design together with robust thyristor components to allow for a faster start-up.
To allow for progress to continue during travel limitations, the teams from ABB and GSW used augmented reality during the factory acceptance test, combining audio, video, document sharing and live annotations, according to ABB.
“The pioneering project with GSW demonstrates the importance of the data traveling instead of the person, an invaluable commodity during the pandemic,” said Iván Vicente, service operations manager, process automation, ABB. “However, we should also note that what differentiates our company is bringing people and technology closer together to produce great results.”
