ABB, SMS group Tag Team on Hot Strip Mill Drivetrain
09/20/2023 - ABB is partnering with SMS group to deliver the medium-voltage motors and drives to the new AM/NS India hot strip mill in Hazira, the companies report.
In a statement, ABB and SMS group said the motors and drives will form the drivetrain for the mill’s roughing and finishing sections. The drivetrain will consist of 13 medium-voltage drives and 16 large, medium-voltage motors. A large number of low-voltage drives is also included in the order.
When it becomes operational in 2025, the new mill will increase Hazira’s production capacity by around 5.5 million tons per year.
“This project for SMS group and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel is a key reference for ABB in India’s fast-growing metals sector,” said Chris Poynter, division president for system drives, ABB Motion.
