In a statement, the company said Nucor will install its A. Longo EAF Taphole AutoSand device and its Sliding SlagPlunger on the new electric arc furnace that is being built as part of the mill’s expansion.  

“The systems will allow complete remote sanding of the taphole. The SlagPlunger breaks the slag in the sump panel port before the AutoSand moves into position to dispense the correct amount of sand into the taphole. The system is remotely monitored and controlled by the operator in the pulpit via an onboard camera system,” the company said in a statement. 

Nucor was set to receive the equipment this week, A. Longo said.
