1.4 MT Rebar Plant Opens in Oman
03/21/2016 - Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel has inaugurated a new rebar mill at its plant in Sohar, Oman, according to reports.
The mill, which is capable of producing 1.3 million metric tons per year, is intended to take back market share from exporters, who are supplying about 3 million to 4 million metric tons to the region, according to India’s The Hindu newspaper.
“The newly expanded facility will further facilitate in making Oman self-sufficient in meeting its domestic demands for rebars,” said Jindal Shadeed chief executive N.A. Ansari in a statement.
“The capacity of the plant has been selected on the basis of demand in GCC and the neighboring countries and, through this complex, Oman will help reduce the dependence of the (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries on imports from outside the region.”
