United States Steel to Kick Off Annual United Way Campaign

United States Steel Corp. will kick off its Pittsburgh-area 2011 United Way employee campaign by hosting its annual Party on the Plaza event Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, on the plaza outside the U. S. Steel Tower.

The Party on the Plaza, now in its nineteenth year, is open to the public. The event is the largest one-day fundraising event for the United Way of Allegheny County.

"Party on the Plaza is just one way that U. S. Steel employees demonstrate their commitment to helping the communities where we live and work," said Greg Zovko, Vice President and Controller for U. S. Steel and Chairman of the company's 2011 United Way campaign. "We are proud to host this event each year and we are committed to supporting the United Way of Allegheny County's efforts to address southwestern Pennsylvania's most critical health and human services needs."

Attendees at the event, which will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities such as games, raffles and a large, prize-filled silent auction. Proceeds from the day's events benefit the United Way of Allegheny County.

The company said that a number of local celebrities are also planning to attend Party on the Plaza, including WTAE-TV news anchor Mike Clark; KDKA-TV's Jon Burnett and Jim Lokay; mascots from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Wild Things and Kennywood Park; Mr. McFeely of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood; and Ellis Cannon, radio and television sports personality and president and publisher of The Pittsburgh Sports Report.
