U. S. Steel Sponsors Annual INROADS Event

Aug. 14, 2006 — United States Steel Corp. recently sponsored INROADS Inc.’s annual Pittsburgh/Erie market recognition dinner.

INROADS, a global not-for-profit leadership training organization that acts as a conduit between distinguished minority undergraduates and America's leading businesses, recognized the efforts of its corporate partners and its Interns as a part of the event. This summer 43 INROADS Interns worked in Pittsburgh area organizations; eight graduating senior Interns were recognized at the event.

The Master and Mistress of Ceremonies were Ricardo Torres, an Intern at U. S. Steel, and Laila Bey, an Intern with PNC Financial Services Group.

In his keynote address, U. S. Steel General Manager—Corporate Diversity, David Coleman, spoke about the importance of advancing company-wide diversity and inclusion strategies in order to win the battle for human talent. "For any company to be the best it must start with an inclusive culture that values the diversity of its people and their talents," Coleman said. "The result will be employees who contribute in creative ways to secure the company's future as a world competitive organization."

U. S. Steel, which hosted two Interns this summer, has been involved with INROADS since it moved into the Pittsburgh market 29 years ago.
