U. S. Steel Names Plant Manager of Keewatin Taconite

Aug. 29, 2006 — United States Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Scott H. Coleman as Plant Manager of the Keewatin Taconite Plant in Keewatin, Minn., a part of the company's Minnesota Ore Operations, effective August 1. Coleman succeeds Joseph Scipioni, who retired at the end of June.

In his new position, Coleman will report to Dennis G. Quirk, General Manager of Minnesota Ore Operations.

Coleman, 39, began his career with U. S. Steel in 1994 as shift manager for the No. 4 Galvanizing Line at Fairfield Works in Fairfield, Ala. He advanced through increasingly responsible positions in operating and maintenance for the finishing operations and was named Senior Area Manager of Coating and Finishing in October 2000.

In 2003, Coleman accepted an assignment as Deputy General Manager of Finishing Operations at U. S. Steel Kosice in the Slovak Republic. Two years later he returned to Fairfield Works when he was named to his most recent position, Plant Manager—Finishing Operations. Before joining U. S. Steel, Coleman spent five years at AK Steel's plant in Dover, Ohio.

Coleman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from the University of Akron, graduating in 1989. He is a long-time member of AIST and will serve on the Board of Directors of the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota.
