U. S. Steel Announces Tubular Operations Management

Following completion of its Lone Star Technologies acquisition and announcement of leadership for the commercial group, United States Steel Corp. is now announcing initial appointments to the operations organization of its tubular business unit.
 
The company has named Nikhil J. Amin as General Manager—Planning & Supply Chain. Sudhakar Kanthamneni has been named General Manager—Manufacturing Technology and Engineering; and David S. Mitch has been named General Manager—Plant Operations. All three positions report to Joseph Alvarado, Vice President—Tubular. The changes are effective immediately.

Steel and Lone Star have achieved to this point,” said Alvarado. “Their experience will help ensure a smooth transition of Lone Star's operations into U. S. Steel while maintaining the world-class quality our customers have come to expect from our companies.”
 
Amin, 43 and a native of Mumbai, India, will oversee the business planning and supply chain management functions at all of U. S. Steel's tubular operations. He joined Lone Star Steel in 2004 as Vice President—Supply Chain Management. Prior to joining Lone Star, Amin spent 11 years at Steelcase, Inc., working in finance and supply chain management roles. He also worked for five years in finance at Grand Metropolitan PLC (formerly Pillsbury). He earned a bachelor's degree in economics and statistics in 1985 from the University of Mumbai in India and obtained a master's degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management in 1989.
 
Kanthamneni, 56, will direct manufacturing technology improvement and innovation, strategic planning and engineering activities for all tubular operations. He has been at Lone Star Steel since 2005, serving as Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and General Manager. Kanthamneni is a 30-year veteran of the tubular products manufacturing industry and has progressed through increasingly responsible roles in engineering, maintenance, operations, and quality assurance at Central Steel Tube, a subsidiary of Donavan Steel & Wire, and Maverick Tube Corp. prior to joining Lone Star Steel. A native of Vijayawada, India, Kanthamneni completed a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Karnataka University in India in 1974 and a master's degree in industrial and management engineering at the University of Iowa in 1976.
 
Mitch, 54, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations at all of U. S. Steel's tubular production facilities. The Wheeling, W.Va., native has worked for Lone Star Steel for three years, most recently serving as Vice President and General Manager—Specialty Tubing Product Group. During his 32- year career in steel and tubular products manufacturing, Mitch has held increasingly responsible positions in a variety of disciplines at companies that include Armco Steel (now known as AK Steel), Copperweld, and U. S. Steel. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering and completed his master's degree in organizational leadership at Geneva College near Pittsburgh in 2004.
