U. S. Steel Announces Management Changes

United States Steel Corp. has named Mark G. Tabler as Vice President-Operations at U. S. Steel Kosice, the company's steelmaking subsidiary in the Slovak Republic. Tabler succeeds Patrick J. Mullarkey, who was recently named President of United Spiral Pipe, the company's large-diameter spiral welded pipe manufacturing joint venture located in Pittsburg, Calif. James F. Dudek will succeed Tabler as Plant Manager-Clairton Plant. 
 
The changes are effective December 1.
 
In his new role, Tabler, 49, will relocate to Slovakia and be responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations at the Slovakian subsidiary's facilities. He joined U. S. Steel in November 2006 as Director-Coke Battery Assessment at the company's Pittsburgh headquarters. Prior to arriving at U. S. Steel, he spent 19 years at AK Steel, where he advanced through increasingly responsible management positions, including General Manager of the company's Butler (Pa.) Works and its Ashland (Ky.) Works. Tabler was appointed to his most recent position, Plant Manager-Clairton Plant, in March 2008. 
 
As Plant Manager of U. S. Steel's Clairton Plant, Dudek will oversee the coking and coal chemical operations at the company's largest coke making facility located near Pittsburgh. Dudek, 36, began his U. S. Steel career in 1996 as a management associate in quality assurance at the company's Gary Works in Gary, Ind. He advanced first through multiple positions in quality assurance and then roles of increasing management responsibility in several areas of Gary's finishing operations before being named Division Manager-Sheet Products at the plant in July 2007. He advanced to his most recent post, Division Manager-Hot Rolling at Gary Works, in November 2007. 
 
United Spiral Pipe, a spiral welded tubular products manufacturing joint venture between United States Steel Corp., Posco, and SeAH Steel Corp., named Mullarkey as President effective November 15.
 
Mullarkey, 52, began his career in the steel industry with Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind., in 1981 and moved through a series of supervisory and management positions in the company's iron and steel making operations. In 1994, he joined Raytheon Engineers & Constructors as the lead engineer for the blast furnace reline division and held that position until joining U. S. Steel in 2000.
 
Mullarkey's first assignment with U. S. Steel was Area Manager-Operating and Maintenance, South Blast Furnaces at Gary Works in Gary, Ind. After advancing through a series of increasingly responsible managerial positions, he was assigned to Gary Works' #14 Blast Furnace construction project in 2005. When the project was completed, Mullarkey transferred to U. S. Steel's Pittsburgh headquarters to serve as Director-Engineering Project Development. He was named Vice President-Technology at U. S. Steel Kosice in 2007 and assumed his most recent position as Vice President-Operations for U. S. Steel Kosice in March 2009.
