Tenova Goodfellow Wins Award for new BOF Slop Detection System
06/30/2011 - Tenova Goodfellow Inc. recently received an Award of Excellence for the company’s installation and commissioning of their Slop Detection System Technology on five BOF vessels at (Riva Group) ILVA, Taranto, Italy.
Tenova Goodfellow Inc. recently received an Award of Excellence during the Consulting Engineers of Ontario Annual General Meeting & Awards Banquet. The award was given for the company’s installation and commissioning of their Slop Detection System Technology on five BOF vessels at (Riva Group) ILVA, Taranto, Italy.
Tenova Goodfellow’s Slop Detection System (SDS) Technology uses lance vibration analysis with real-time alerts to give operators advance warning of the onset of a slop and measurement of slop severity. The system is designed to provide direct feedback control of lance position and oxygen flow rate, for rapid mitigation of the effects of a slop.
“The SDS technology is one of four innovative modular solutions in Tenova’s comprehensive i BOF® Technology, offering BOF steelmakers great opportunity to reduce their costs and increase their competitiveness,” commented Vittorio Scipolo, Manager, R&D, accepting the award on behalf of Tenova Goodfellow.
For ILVA, Taranto, the Slop Detection technology accurately provided early indication for 87% of the slopping heats observed. Automation of the lance flow and height resulted in increased productivity and improved yield while also helping to reduce atmospheric emissions and decrease lost time associated with equipment cleanup.
