Techint’s Paolo Rocca Named 2011 AIST Steelmaker of the Year
03/29/2011 - Paolo Rocca, CEO of the Techint Group and Chairman of its Tenaris and Ternium steel manufacturing operations, will be named “Steelmaker of the Year” at AISTech 2011, which takes place May 2-5 in Indianapolis.
Paolo Rocca, CEO of the Techint Group and Chairman of its Tenaris and Ternium steel manufacturing operations, will be named “Steelmaker of the Year” at AISTech 2011 — The Iron & Steel Technology Conference and Exposition, managed by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST).
Rocca is being recognized for his dynamic and diverse leadership in the manufacturing of steel, most notably for the production of quality pipe and tube to support the world’s energy infrastructure. His outstanding legacy, guided by the spirit and inspiration of his father Roberto and his grandfather Agostino, personifies global awareness of social and economic responsibility, and highlights the important role of education in creating lasting value for the communities where steel is made.
The Steelmaker of the Year Award is presented annually by AIST to recognize notable leaders for their contributions to the steel industry. It will be presented to Rocca on May 3 during the President’s Award Breakfast, one of the signature events of AISTech 2011. The breakfast program will feature the presentation of several prestigious association awards, followed by a keynote presentation by Frederick “Frtiz” Henderson, Senior Vice President for Sunoco Inc. (SunCoke Energy) and former President and CEO for General Motors.
AISTech 2011 will take place May 2–5 in Indianapolis, Ind., with technical sessions and several keynote presentations by today’s business leaders. The AISTech 2011 Conference will showcase more than 400 papers on iron and steel technology. Highlights of the program include the latest environmental technologies throughout the iron and steelmaking process; advances in rolling and coating technologies, energy conservation, distribution and efficient utilization; safe work practices and procedures for projects, production and maintenance; improving the reliability of equipment and process; techniques for the project manager; cutting-edge research and advances in the processing, product development and application of steel; the latest in automation and control systems; and discussions on the considerations of efficient material movement both within the facility and to the customer.
