Southwest Member Chapter The Systems Group Scholarship
Established in 2023, the AIST Southwest Member Chapter Scholarship is intended to reward and attract talented and dedicated students and encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry by providing a grant of financial support during full-time attendance at a North American accredited college or university. The inaugural year of the scholarship is sponsored by The Systems Group.

Awards
The Southwest Member Chapter The Systems Group Scholarship – One (1) US$2,500 one-year scholarship
Eligibility
Students are eligible to compete for the scholarship if, at the time of application, they are a current member of the Material Advantage program who resides in or attends a university located in the Southwest Member Chapter area; or a child or spouse of an AIST professional member of the Southwest Member Chapter, in good standing.
The student must be enrolled, or accepted into, full-time at a North American college or university in a course of study in the field of engineering, engineering technology, computer science, data science, or industrial safety. The student should have a strong interest toward a career in the iron and steel industry. The recipients will be awarded without regard to financial need.
Selection
Scholarship applications will be reviewed by the executive committee of the Southwest Member Chapter. The award will be made without regard to race, gender, ethnicity, financial need, or socio-economic conditions.
Rules
The scholarship must be used at an accredited North American college or university.
The student must start or continue the course of study, at the college or university, in the fall of the same year the scholarship is awarded.
The AIST Foundation will forward the scholarship stipend, as a lump sum, to the college or university for direct deposit into the student’s account.
In cases where the student’s studies or admission are delayed or interrupted for any reason, the Southwest Member Chapter (scholarship chair or secretary) must be advised immediately and may result in forfeiture.
Awardees may re-apply each year they qualify.
Required Documents (in addition to completing the application)
A current resume with work experience and any extracurricular activities, noting any leadership positions.
An essay (250 words or less) describing your professional goals, explaining why you are interested in a career in the iron and steel industry, and how your skills could be applied to enhance the industry.
Copy of current university transcript (high school seniors should submit high school transcript)
A recommendation letter from a counselor, teacher, or professor must be included with the application.
