Phillip Summerford - 2018 Steel Intern Scholar
I would like to thank AIST for giving me the incredible opportunity to intern with Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. The Steel Intern Scholarship will provide much-needed financial assistance to pursue my degree. During my internship, I worked on a variety of projects: quality control, claim analysis and a surface inspection system. Having the opportunity to intern and work next to experienced metallurgists helped me understand some of the more difficult topics covered in class. This internship helped me financially and confirmed my interest in a career in the steel industry. Following graduation, I plan to seek employment within the steel industry. All of this was made possible by the AIST workers and generous donors that give to AIST.
