My internship at Stelco, a company with a legacy spanning over 100 years, has been a journey of learning and growth. Stelco’s commitment to high-quality products and innovative market strategies provides me with a unique opportunity to immerse myself in the dynamic world of strategic planning.
As a strategic planning co-op student, I have the privilege of working at Stelco’s Hamilton (Hamilton Works) and Nanticoke (Lake Erie Works) locations. This full-time position, lasting 16 months, allows me to support Stelco’s strategic initiatives.
So far, I have supported market research, technical and business assessments, and engaged with cross-functional teams to gather information and support projects. In addition to my core responsibilities, I played a role in organizing and executing internal company events, which fostered a sense of community, collaboration, and communication among employees. I have contributed to automating various tasks, which will improve efficiency within the strategic planning group. I have also been involved in reviewing and recommending new technologies which then led to small-scale proof-of- concept projects which will be reviewed and validated by the leadership team.
As I conclude the first four months of my internship, I am excited to continue my journey with Stelco. I look forward to learning even more and contributing further to the company’s success. I am grateful for this opportunity and for the supportive environment at Stelco.
