Austin Olivier - 2018 Premier Scholar
I served my summer internship at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc. I worked in the rolling mill department, where I performed quality testing of our rolled steel as well as learned a new program used for building quality reports. Over the course of the summer, I had the opportunity to work on maintenance inside the mill and perform quality testing in the lab. 
Organizing my time between different projects was challenging, but the skills I gained from it will help both in the classroom and in my future career. This internship gave me the chance to see how the metallurgy I have learned in class is used on a daily basis in the steel industry. I would like to thank both AIST and Nucor for this summer internship opportunity. This summer has shown me that I truly have a passion for the steel industry and I am excited to become a part of it upon my graduation.
