Tyler S. Rigby - 2016 Premier Scholar
I would like to start off by thanking AIST for all the tremendous support they have given me over the past few years. Receiving the Premier Scholarship has been such an honor. The scholarship has taken most of the financial burden off of my final year in college, which has allowed me to focus on my schoolwork and career in steel. This past summer I had the great opportunity to work at Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. in Blytheville, Ark., USA. This was an exciting experience, as I had never been in such a large steel mill. Nucor-Yamato produces some of the largest steel beams in the world, which creates a very unique work environment. I was in the meltshop group and got to work on many projects, including bulk material filling stations, layouts, safety items and more. I was also very fortunate to have a great team around me.

Working at a steel mill offers the opportunity to work closely with your projects and it is very exciting when they start to become a reality. This has been my third internship in the steel industry and I keep coming back for a reason. I plan to pursue a career in steel upon graduation next year. Again, I would like to thank AIST and Nucor for the support and opportunities to develop a career in a field I am passionate about.
