Steelworkers Reach Tentative Agreement with Cleveland Cliffs

United Steelworkers (USW) has reached a new tentative four-year agreement with Cleveland Cliffs.

The tentative agreement was reached late Sunday night (Aug. 31), and a contract extension was signed Monday, pending ratification of the agreement.

USW District 11 Director Bob Bratulich called the agreement, “the best contract we've ever negotiated for iron ore miners.”

“It follows the economic pattern established in recent negotiations with U.S. Steel and ArcelorMittal,” he said. “And for the first time, we were successful in removing the cap on retirees' health care.”

When ratified, the new contract will cover approximately 2500 USW members employed at Cleveland Cliffs’ Hibbing Taconite and United Taconite facilities in Minnesota, and its Empire and Tilden facilities in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
