Steelworkers Reach Tentative Agreement with AltaSteel
08/02/2007 - United Steelworkers' Local 5220 reaches a tentative contract settlement with Scaw Metals Group’s AltaSteel Ltd.
The United Steelworkers' (USW) Local 5220 announced it has reached a tentative contract settlement with Scaw Metals Group’s AltaSteel Ltd.
The United Steelworkers said that settlement details will not be released until union members have had a chance to review them and vote on the package over the next few weeks.
Formerly part of the Stelco chain, AltaSteel was purchased by South-Africa-based Scaw Metals in early 2006. This is the first agreement reached with the new company.
The United Steelworkers represents more than 280,000 men and women working in every sector of Canada's economy.
