SteelBenchmarker: HRB Prices Hibernating
01/30/2014 - In its 188th report, the SteelBenchmarker released 10 steel product and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled band for 27 January 2014:
The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ United States HRB spot price for 27 January 2014 was down 0.1% to US$743 per tonne after remaining flat last time. The Chinese HRB price was down 0.4% to US$475 per tonne after remaining flat last time. The World export HRB price was up 0.2% to US$564 per tonne falling last time. The Western European HRB price was up 0.3% to US$610 per tonne (on a Euro basis, it was up 0.5%) after remaining flat last time.
USA – US$743 per tonne (US$674 per ton), FOB the mill — down US$1 per tonne from US$744 (US$675 ton) two weeks ago, up US$106 from the recent low of US$637 (US$578 ton) on 27 May 2013 and up US$190 from the low of US$553 per tonne (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$227 per tonne from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$460 (38.2%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per tonne (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
China – US$475 per metric tonne, ex-works — down US$2 per tonne from US$477 two weeks ago, up US$28 per tonne from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$68 from the low of US$407 per tonne on 12 October 2009. It is down US$162 per tonne from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$258 (35.2%) from the record peak of US$733 per tonne on 14 July 2008.
Western Europe – US$610 (€446) per tonne, ex-works — up US$2 per tonne from US$608 (€444) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was up €2), up US$20 (down €8) from the recent low of US$590 (€454) on 8 July 2013 and up US$39 (up €65) from the low of US$571 (€381) per tonne on 23 November 2009. It is down US$242 (€159) per tonne from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$594 (49.3%) (€310) (41.3%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per tonne on 14 July 2008.
World Export Price – US$564 per metric tonne, FOB the port of export — up US$1 per tonne from US$563 two weeks ago, up US$32 from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$68 from the low of US$496 per tonne on 9 November 2009. It is down US$238 per tonne from the recent high of US$802 on 14 February 2011 and down US$549 (49.3%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per tonne on 28 July 2008.
