SteelBenchmarker: HRB Price Chill Intensifies
03/14/2014 - In its 191st report, the SteelBenchmarker released nine steel product and three USA scrap prices.
The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ Western European HRB price for 10 March 2014 was up 0.8% to US$604 per metric ton (on a Euro basis, it was flat) after falling two consecutive times. The World export HRB price was down 0.5% to US$557 per metric ton for the third consecutive time. The Chinese HRB price was down 2.4% to US$456 per metric ton for the fourth consecutive time. The United States HRB spot price was down 2.5% to US$704 per metric ton for the fourth consecutive time.

USA — US$704 per metric ton (US$639 per ton), FOB the mill — down US$18 per metric ton from US$722 (US$655ton) two weeks ago, up US$67 from the recent low of US$637 (US$578ton) on 27 May 2013 and up US$151 from the low of US$553 per metric ton (US$502ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$266 per metric ton from the recent high of US$970 (US$880ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$499 (41.5%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per metric ton (US$1,091ton) on 28 July 2008.
China — US$456 per metric ton, ex-works — down US$11 per metric ton from US$467 two weeks ago, up US$9 per metric ton from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$49 from the low of US$407 per metric ton on 12 October 2009. It is down US$181 per metric ton from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$277 (37.8%) from the record peak of US$733 per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
Western Europe — US$604 (€435e) per metric ton, ex-works — up US$5 per metric ton from US$599 (€435) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was flat), up US$14 (down €19) from the recent low of US$590 (€454) on 8 July 2013 and up US$33 (up €54) from the low of US$571 (€381) per metric ton on 23 November 2009. It is down US$248 (€170) per metric ton from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$600 (49.8%) (€321) (42.5%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
World Export Price — US$557 per metric ton, FOB the port of export — down US$3 per metric ton from US$560 two weeks ago, up US$25 from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$61 from the low of US$496 per metric ton on 9 November 2009. It is down US$245 per metric ton from the recent high of US$802 on 14 February 2011 and down US$556 (50.0%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per metric ton on 28 July 2008.
