Steel Import Permit Applications Exceed Three Million Tons in June
08/08/2007 - Steel import permit applications totaled 3,035,000 net tons for the month of July 2007—13% higher than the 2005 monthly average—according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Steel import permit applications totaled 3,035,000 net tons for the month of July 2007, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The report, which is based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, shows the July total represents a 4% decrease from the 3,174,000 permit tons recorded in June 2007, and a 5% increase from the June preliminary imports total of 2,882,000 net tons.
The July total is also 13% higher than the 2005 monthly average.
Import permit tonnage for finished steel in July 2007 was 2,324,000 net tons, 1% above the preliminary imports of 2,296,000 net tons in June 2007—and 11% higher than the 2005 monthly average of 2,099,000 net tons.
