SSAB Appoints New Head for SSAB Americas, SSAB EMEA

SSAB has appointed Charles Schmitt as the new head of SSAB Americas, and Melker Jernberg as the new head the SSAB EMEA Business Area.
 
Schmitt is a member of SSAB America’s management team and currently heads the Southern Business Unit in SSAB Americas. Jernberg is currently SVP at the truck and bus manufacturer Scania. Both will become members of SSAB’s Group Executive Committee.
 
“It’s extremely pleasing that we have obtained such skilled managers to head our Americas and EMEA Business Areas,” said SSAB’s CEO Martin Lindqvist. “With his many years of experience from Scania, Melker Jernberg will be able to contribute extremely important knowledge to SSAB. Charles Schmitt has already demonstrated his genuine skills within SSAB and I am convinced that he will be able to further develop our American operations.
 
“I wish both Charles and Melker a warm welcome to SSAB's Group Executive Committee,” added Lindqvist.

Schmitt, born in 1959, holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has spent his entire career within the steel industry, beginning at U.S. Steel Corp. He later worked for more than 20 years within Ipsco, subsequently SSAB, holding senior positions within marketing and sales. Schmitt will take up his new position on July 18.

Jernberg, born 1968, holds an MSc in Engineering from KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm). Largely speaking, throughout his professional life since 1989 he has worked at Scania, where he has held a number of senior positions. Jernberg is currently SVP with responsibility for the Buses and Coaches business area. He will take up his new position at SSAB not later than January 1, 2012.
