SMS Demag to Supply Multi-Blanking Line for Heidtman Steel

Heidtman Steel Products Inc. has awarded SMS Demag Ltd., Ont., Canada, an order for a new multi-blanking line to be installed at its steel processing center in Butler, Ind.
The new line will feature SMS Demag’s CNC slitter head, which provides several advantages, including sequenced production of similar coils, less offline setup labor, less tooling, and less spares since only one slitter head is required.
Heidtman Steel will use the new line to process material from 0.010- to 0.135-inch thick coils that are 72 inches wide and weigh up to 80,000 lb. The line will be run at various speeds utilizing the operation mode of the flying shear.
SMS group is, under the holding SMS GmbH, a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industry. It includes the two Business Areas SMS Demag and SMS Meer, which jointly form SMS metallurgy. In 2006, some 9000 employees worldwide generated a turnover of about EUR 2.8 billion.
