SMS Demag will provide the complete supply of a hot strip annealing and pickling line for ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA’s new facility in Calvert, Ala., near Mobile.
The annealing and pickling line is an integral part of a new cold rolling mill that ThyssenKrupp Stainless is erecting for stainless steel production. The line will process hot stainless steel strips that are tailored specifically to the requirements of the company’s U.S. customers.
Designed for an annual production of 750,000 tonnes, the annealing and pickling line will be used to manufacture hot strip for the subsequent production of cold strip. The hot strip will also be utilized for tube and pipe production, apparatus engineering and in the offshore industry.
The annealing and pickling line will become operational as part of the cold mill that forms an integral part of a joint works of ThyssenKrupp Stainless and ThyssenKrupp Steel. The cold mill will commence production in 2010.
ThyssenKrupp Stainless is investing around EUR 840 million in new production capacities for stainless steel.
