SMS Demag to Extend CST Steel Plant
09/01/2004 - Companhia Siderúrgica de Tubarão (CST), Brazil, has selected SMS Demag, Germany, to extend the LD steel plant at CST’s works in Vitória. The order is valued at 40 million Euros.

The SMS scope of supply comprises a 300-tonne converter vessel with a lamella suspension type vessel-to-ring lock system; an oxygen blowing-lance system; sublance system for temperature and analyses; and the electrical and automation systems.
Converter III will enable the annual production to be increased from 5.2 to 7.5 million tonnes. The two converters supplied by SMS Demag in 1999 will continue to produce while the construction and erection work is taking place.
Commissioning is scheduled for May 2006.
