10/08/2018 - The Steel Manufacturers Association has recognized a Steel Dynamics Inc. employee for his on-going efforts to improve the industry’s safety.
In an announcement Monday, the association said it is presenting Thomas “Ike” Isaac with its annual Don B. Daily Achievement in Safety award.
“Ike travels across operating locations to conduct high-energy meetings, which promote employee engagement in overall safety. Ike’s efforts motivate and inspire our employees to make safety their top ‘personal’ core value. His passion for safety comes through in his messaging and truly supports our values,” said Jeff Hansen, vice president of safety and human resources for Steel Dynamics.
Also, the association said it is presenting Gerdau’s Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., USA, plant with its Achievement in Environmental Stewardship and Recycling Award in recognition of its baghouse project.
Through the US$22 million project, Gerdau is installing a pulse jet baghouse that will greatly lower particulate emissions.
“The Rancho Cucamonga baghouse project represents a monumental achievement making the mill one of the cleanest in the world with the lowest particulate and metals emissions rates in the U.S.,” said Chis Evans, vice president and general manager of the Rancho Cucamonga mill.
In addition, North Star BlueScope Steel in Ohio and Nucor Steel Kankakee Inc. in Illinois were awarded the association’s Achievement in Community Involvement Award for their efforts to engage with their respective communities.
