Senator’s Message to U. S. Steel: Reject Any Bids From Foreign Entity
08/17/2023 - Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance has penned a letter to United States Steel Corporation, calling on the company to reject buyout offers from foreign entities, FOX Business reports.
Vance sent a letter to U. S. Steel’s chief executive David Burritt and board chairman David Sutherland expressing his "interest in the formal review of strategic alternatives" of the company’s buyout offers.
According to FOX Business, Vance wrote, "The recent announcement signaled a turning point not only for the iconic American company but for an industry of strategic national importance … As the second largest integrated steelmaker in the country and a giant of American industry, the future of U. S. Steel will be consequential for the future of the U.S. steel industry. I fear that the strategic review could undermine our national security if mismanaged."
Vance then insisted the company “reject any bids to acquire U. S. Steel or its assets from a foreign entity.”
Yesterday Reuters reported that ArcelorMittal is weighing a possible bid for U. S. Steel.
