Section 232 Tariffs Incongruent With USMCA Deal, Canadian Official Says
12/19/2018 - A Canadian official argues that the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum contradict a key component of the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement and therefore will, in the end, be lifted.
“There is an internal contradiction in having tariffs on Canadian steel even as there is a built-in requirement for North American steel (in automobiles). So I do feel the Canadian case, which has always been very strong, is only getting stronger,” Canada Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland tells The Canadian Press.
