The Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), represented by its manufacturing affiliate Saudi Iron and Steel Co. (HADEED), recently launched a 15-day road-cleaning campaign on a 40-km stretch of the Jubail-Dammam Highway, from the King Faisal Bridge to the Ju'aymah Bridge.
Under the slogan, “I can ensure a clean environment,” 1,000 SABIC employees are taking turns removing tons of waste strewn along the road, in coordination with government and security agencies. The campaign is being carried out in two shifts—5 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.—with 150 employees participating in each shift.
The cleaning effort includes removal and disposal of metal, glass and plastic cans, bags and other litter caused by people, as well as vehicle waste, such as oil cans and tires, and automobiles. The teams are also focusing on construction debris and discarded equipment. All heavy scrap is removed using special equipment and machines.
As part of the campaign, banners have been put up spreading awareness about the importance of cleanliness, and plastic trash bags are being distributed among motorists. A roadside exhibition outlines the various stages of the cleaning campaign and highlights the company’s recent social responsibility campaign.
