Ryerson to Open El Paso Service Center

Ryerson Inc. plans to open a service center in El Paso, Tex., that is expected to begin operations in mid-October.

The 25,000 sq. ft. El Paso facility will service the El Paso/Juarez, Mexico, market and will distribute a range of carbon, aluminum, and stainless steel products in various shapes. The facility will operate with local sales and operations staff.

Ryerson currently services the Mexico market through Mexico-based facilities in Nogales and Mexicali, as well as a U.S.-based facility in McAllen, Tex. In August, Ryerson announced the opening of a service center in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

"Investing in El Paso is an opportunity for Ryerson to expand its geographic reach and improve service to customers in the Mexico market," said Chip Kennedy, President of Ryerson's West region, who is responsible for the El Paso operation. "Customers in the region have expressed a desire to have a full-service warehouse situated locally where we can handle all of their needs."

Ryerson has also completed three acquisitions this year: Houston-based Texas Steel Processing Inc. in January; Mobile, Ala.-based Cutting Edge Metal Processing Inc. in May; and Houston-based SFI-Gray Steel Inc. in August.

Ryerson Inc., a Platinum Equity company, is a leading distributor and processor of metals in North America. The company services customers through a network of service centers across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China.
