Reports: Theft Ring Lifted 55 Tons of Nickel from Pennsylvania Mill
12/14/2016 - Criminal charges have been filed against eight people who allegedly stole 55 tons of nickel from ArcelorMittal’s plate mill in Coatesville, Pa.
According to the Associated Press, the group, which included ArcelorMittal employees and contractors, ran what was described as a sophisticated theft ring that made off with nearly US$1 million worth of the alloying metal.
According to press accounts, the group was taking nickel from “super sacks,” and in one instance, managed to steal an entire super sack. The sack was loaded into a box truck, but it was so heavy that it caused the truck’s front wheels to lift off of the ground.
