Nucor Corp. has entered into an agreement with Ambassador Steel Corp. to form Nufab Rebar LLC, a rebar fabrication joint venture that will grow through both greenfield projects and the acquisition of existing assets.
"This venture provides Nucor the opportunity to further grow our downstream integration from our bar mills into a value-added process," said Dan DiMicco, Nucor's Vice Chairman, President and CEO. Last year, Nucor established a successful rebar fabrication joint venture with Harris Steel Group in the western and northeastern U.S. regions. The joint venture with Ambassador Steel Corp. will allow Nucor to expand its rebar fabrication presence into other regions.
"We are excited to form this partnership with a leader in the rebar fabrication industry,” comments DiMicco. “Ambassador has built a very attractive business model based on its strengths in engineering, manufacturing and marketing. We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with Ambassador Steel Corp."
Nucor and its affiliates manufacture steel products, with operating facilities in fourteen states. Products include carbon and alloy steel bars, beams, sheet and plate; steel joists and joist girders; steel deck; cold finished steel; steel fasteners; metal building systems; and light gauge steel framing. Nucor is the largest producer of rebar in the United States.
Ambassador Steel Corp. is the largest independent rebar fabricator in the United States, with fabricating facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin.
