Nucor Berkeley to Start up QMOS MES System from Quad Infotech

Quad Infotech Inc. recently completed installation of a [QMOS] MES system at Nucor-Berkeley, Nucor’s beam mill in Huger, S.C.

Nucor will use the newly installed [QMOS] system to manage the facility's Roll Shop. The system will coordinate tasks associated with the Roll Shop and Stand Building, including the recording of all roll assembly, turning and scrapping activity. The system also will schedule rolls for the mill, with allowance for the intricate details related to Universal Stand rolling and setup.

The newly installed [QMOS] system features detailed roll inventory management as well as enhanced location management that will help to eliminate lost time spent searching for and retrieving rolls. The system will also coordinate mill setup shop operations and facilitate setup of shop processes by providing better tracking for use of chocks and bearings.

Nucor-Berkeley produces carbon steel wide-flange beams, manufactured housing beams, standard I-beams, and miscellaneous and standard channels.  Nucor-Berkeley joins other Nucor operations in Seattle, Wash., Norfolk, Neb., and Decatur, Ala., as part of the QMOS family.
