Nucor Adds to Steel Fabrication Business in Canada
03/02/2017 - Nucor Corp. has acquired the assets of Omega Joist, a Canadian manufacturer of open-web steel joists, for an undisclosed amount.
In an announcement Wednesday, Nucor said the business will operate as Vulcraft-Omega and will work alongside Nucor's eleven other joist and deck production facilities. Nucor said it plans to add additional products to Vulcraft-Omega's product portfolio, including steel deck.
"We are excited to grow our joist and decking business in Canada with the acquisition of Omega Joist. This acquisition complements the Vulcraft facility we are currently constructing in Ancaster, Ont.," said Ray Napolitan, Nucor’s executive vice president for fabricated construction products.
"We are committed to growing our joist and deck business in Canada and this acquisition is another important step in our growth strategy," he said.
Omega Joist was a subsidiary of Samuel, Son & Co. Ltd. It has 43 employees at its manufacturing facility in Nisku, Ab., and its sales offices in western British Columbia and southern Alberta.
