Northwest Pipe Announces
Agreement with ShawCor Pipe

April 1, 2004 — Northwest Pipe Co. has reached an agreement to be the exclusive dealer for ShawCor Pipe Protection LLC's proprietary Pritec(TM) extruded polyethylene (PE) coating for large diameter water transmission pipelines.

ShawCor Pipe Protection's Pritec PE coating conforms to the American Water Works Association (AWWA) C215 standard for steel water pipelines. Initially, Pritec will be offered through Northwest Pipe's Adelanto, California manufacturing facility. The coating facility is expected to be operational by May 15, 2004, and will be operated by ShawCor Pipe Protection as a satellite location from its Fontana, Calif., pipe coating facility.

Brian Dunham, President and CEO of Northwest Pipe, commented, "This agreement with ShawCor Pipe Protection allows Northwest Pipe to offer leading-edge pipeline coating technologies for large diameter water transmission pipelines in the United States. We are delighted to be able to provide this product to our customers."

Northwest Pipe Co. manufactures welded steel pipe in two business segments. Its Water Transmission Group is a leading supplier of large diameter, high-pressure, steel pipe products used primarily for water transmission in the United States and Canada. Its Tubular Products Group manufactures smaller diameter steel pipe for a wide range of construction, agricultural, energy, industrial and mechanical applications. The company is headquartered in Portland, Ore., and operates eleven manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico.

ShawCor Pipe Protection is part of Bredero Shaw, which operates pipe coating facilities in sixteen countries providing specialized coating systems and related services for corrosion protection, insulation and weight coating applications on land and marine pipelines. Bredero Shaw is a division of ShawCor Ltd. of Toronto, Ont., an energy services company specializing in products and services for the exploration and production, pipeline and downstream sectors of the energy industry. The company operates through seven divisions with manufacturing and service facilities located around the world.
