NLMK Lipetsk Issues Final Acceptance Certificate for New Blast Furnace

10/11/2012 - In addition to the basic design, the Paul Wurth Group has executed engineering and supply of a new 3.4 million ton per year blast furnace, including shell and tower structure, the refractory lining and the cooling system, for NLMK's Lipetsk works in Russia.

A new, modern blast furnace, No. 7, also called “Rossiyanka”, became the centerpiece of ironmaking at the Lipetsk works of OAO “Novolipetskij metallurgicheskij kombinat” (NLMK) in Russia. Sized at 13.1 m hearth diameter, it will deliver 3.4 million tons of hot metal per year to the BOF steelmaking shops.
 
After successful commissioning, ramp-up and the furnace passing all contractual performance tests, NLMK recently issued the Final Acceptance Certificate in favor of Paul Wurth. In addition to the basic design, the Paul Wurth Group has executed engineering and supply of the entire blast furnace proper including shell and tower structure, the refractory lining and the cooling system. The belt-fed furnace features a new generation two-hopper BLT® charging system and a set of process recorders (probes) and software which support enhanced control of material and gas distribution. All 4 tapholes are fitted with TMT full-hydraulic castfloor machinery, including runner cover manipulators. The order to the Paul Wurth Group comprised also engineering and supply of the electrical cold blast blower and a modern top gas cleaning system. Electric and hydraulic equipment, instrumentation and automation have been an integral part of Paul Wurth’s scope. Design and supply of the stockhouse facilities and the hot blast generation plant have been provided by Russian companies.
 
Paul Wurth provided advisory services for construction and erection of the plant and performed supervision of commissioning of the process related production units.
 
All plant design has been developed in close cooperation with NLMK; the project execution involved local engineering offices, equipment suppliers, construction and erection companies.
