Worthington Reports 2nd Quarter Fiscal 2011 Results

06 January 2011 - Worthington Industries reported net earnings of $14.5 million on net sales of $580.7 million for its fiscal 2011 second quarter, and net earnings of $36.8 million on net sales of $1198 million for the six months ended November 30, 2010.

Steel Import Permit Tons Hold Steady through December

06 January 2011 - Steel import permit applications reached a total of 1,814,000 net tons for the month of December, a 0.4% decrease from the 1,808,000 permit tons recorded in November according to the latest report from AISI.

03 January 2011 - Timken subsidiary TSB Metal Recycling LLC has purchased the assets of City Scrap and Salvage Co. of Akron, Ohio. City Scrap has been supplying Timken with ferrous scrap for more than 15 years.

ALJ Announces Results for Fiscal Year 2010

03 January 2011 - ALJ Regional Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Kentucky Electric Steel, posted net income of $472,000 on net sales of $32.37 million for the fourth quarter, and net income of $5.69 million on net sales of $112.83 million for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2010.

Preliminary Steel Imports Dip 5% in November

30 December 2010 - The U.S. imported a total of 1,784,000 net tons of steel in November, down 5% from October final data according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were down 6% over the same period.

EPA, DOJ and Indiana Reach Proposed Settlement on Westville, Ind., Superfund Site

30 December 2010 - U.S. EPA Region 5, U.S. DOJ, Indiana DEM and the Office of the Indiana Attorney General have reached a proposed settlement with a group of 13 potentially responsible parties who will pay for and complete the final phase of cleanup at the Cam-Or Superfund site in Westville, Ind.

AK Steel To Permanently Close Kentucky Coke Plant

29 December 2010 - AK Steel announced plans to permanently close its Ashland, Ky., coke plant in 2011. The company says the plant, which employs 263, is no longer cost-competitive.

Steel Dynamics to Supply Welded Rail for Vermonter Project

27 December 2010 - Steel Dynamics’ Structural and Rail Division will supply 28,500 net tons of continuous welded rail to L.B. Foster Co., for use in the "Vermonter" project in New England.

Horsehead Zinc Smelter Returns to Full Production

22 December 2010 - Horsehead Corp. has restarted a sixth zinc smelting furnace at its facility in Monaca, Pa., returning the smelter to full production. The company expects to return to pre-incident zinc oxide production capability at its refinery in early January 2011.

AK Steel Announces Additional Carbon Steel Price Increase

22 December 2010 - AK Steel announced plans to increase current spot market base prices by $30 per ton for all carbon flat-rolled steel products, effective immediately with new orders.

Commercial Metals Reports First Quarter Results

22 December 2010 - Commercial Metals Co. reported net income of $0.7 million or $0.01 per diluted share on net sales of $1.8 billion for the quarter ended November 30, 2010. This compares with a net loss of $31.2 million or $0.28 per share on net sales of $1.4 billion for the first quarter of last year.
